Dr. Myriam Ensling, MD

I am an Internal Medicine specialist with more than thirty years of practice in the field. I was trained in Cordoba Medical School in Argentina and I obtained my MD degree in 1986. I have always found the specialty of Internal Medicine fascinating. In Argentina, I became familiar with other specialties such as nephrology, rheumatology and intensive care. Internal Medicine has always interested me because of the challenges of integrating the knowledge of different systems and organs. I was an Assistant Professor in the Internal Medicine Department at MU for five years, where I taught the practice of medicine to numerous students and IM residents. In addition, I have worked as both Hospitalist and a Primary care IM physician.

While practicing primary care, I realized that trying to stablilize conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, joint pain and hypercholesterolemia and many others; required treating the ultimate cause of these conditions- Obesity first. I decided to obtain training in Obesity and successfully passed the Bariatric Medicine Boards in October 2011.

I love food and have always struggled with my weight, so I can relate to people with obesity. When it comes to patients with diet and weight issues, my philosophy is: peoples' freedom to make choices must be honored. So, when I design a diet; I give my patients basic guidelines for nutrient composition in their diets where they can chose their foods according to the guidelines.  For many people food is just one of the few pleasures available, so why take that from them? All diets work initially, the problem is sustainability. When we enjoy what we eat, when we can have a diet where food sources can change as long as nutrient proportions are controlled; we can keep following that diet. I will give you the tools to make intelligent choices for your diet!
